“Leben in Deutschland” test vs. Einbürgerungstest
Updated 20 October 2026
Short answer: Both tests use the same 300 + 10 state questions and the same 33-question format. The “Leben in Deutschland” test ends the integration course: 15 correct answers pass the orientation course. With 17 or more correct answers, the LiD certificate also counts as proof of knowledge for naturalisation, so you don’t need a separate Einbürgerungstest.
| “Leben in Deutschland” | Einbürgerungstest | |
|---|---|---|
| Purpose | Final test of the integration course (orientation course) | Proof of knowledge for citizenship |
| Questions | 33 from the same catalogue | 33 from the same catalogue |
| Pass mark | 15 (orientation course); 17 counts for naturalisation | 17 |
| Time | 60 minutes | 60 minutes |
| Who takes it | Integration course participants | Anyone preparing to apply for citizenship |
The practical takeaway: whichever test you take, aim for 17 or more. Then one certificate covers both purposes. All practice on this site works for both tests.
