Why?
The three branches of state power are legislation (Gesetzgebung), the executive (government and administration) and the judiciary (Rechtsprechung). This separation of powers prevents abuse of power. The press is very important for democracy, but it is independent and not a branch of the state.

Die drei staatlichen Gewalten sind Gesetzgebung, vollziehende Gewalt (Regierung und Verwaltung) und Rechtsprechung. Diese Gewaltenteilung schützt vor Machtmissbrauch. Die Presse ist wichtig, aber sie ist frei und gehört nicht zum Staat.
